Crazy Frog

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Awhile back, maybe a year or more, my friend Chaun and/or my goddaughter Taylor sent me a link to this goofy little video entitled Crazy Frog.  It was a hit thing in Europe and also cited as one of the most annoying things ever.  As an attempt to distract Emily from something else, I showed her that video the other day.

It worked, she was distracted.

After about the 12th time she watched it in a row, I started to see where the “annoying” label came from.

My guess is that video has been played roughly 30 times since then in the Slusher household.  Funny thing is, after about 20 times or so, it’s not so annoying anymore.  It just sort of becomes the background noise and is much preferable to a whining child.

I Did That

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

My home improvement multimedia extravaganza is now live! You can check it out here.

It’s called I Did That. It will mix in blog posts, audio podcasts and video podcasts. I’ve started rather simply with my Laundry Room Project. The show will be evolving as it goes, so make sure you check it out.

Update:  Oops, I had the first link messed up.  It’s fixed now.  The url is www.ididthatshow.com for those thousands of you that want to homepage it.

I Need Help

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Yeah, yeah, I know, I know.  I’ve needed help for a long time, blh, blah.  Get it out of your system.  I’ll wait.

Okay, here is what I need and since I don’t know what else to do, I will throw it out to the Internets and see what happens.

I have been wanting to do a video podcast or vlog or whatever you call it for some time.  It will be based on my personal forays into home repair and improvement.  I have already filmed a bunch of video of different projects I have done.  I am going to call it I Did That and I want to put out a video or two a week, maybe 5 or ten minutes each.

The problem is that I can’t film it, think up the story line, edit it, do the projects, work a full-time job and be a decent father and husband.  And those last 2 things are the most important.  Thus,  I can’t do it alone.
What I need is this:

  • A camera(wo)man, not for every single scene, since some shots are just me talking to the camera.  I just need a tripod for those, which I already have.
  • A video editor.  This is probably the most important. Editing video takes me a long time.  It is currently my big bottleneck.  I’ve got hours and hours of video that needs to be shaped into something.

What I’ve got to offer is this:

  • Not much.  I’ve got a small budget so that I could just pay you for it, but it won’t be a ton of money.  The pay would be based on time spent if you were working the camera, by the job for the editing.
  • My undying friendship, eternal gratitude and a position on the board of directors of  I Did That, Inc. should it ever materialize.
  • Did I mention undying friendship?

So that is where I am at.  I’m not asking for full time or professional level work.  This is a doing it for fun and maybe someday making money if lightning strikes sort of thing.  I don’t even need the same camerapersons and editors for every show.  If every single one had a different person doing it, that would be fine with me. If you, or someone you know, is at all interested, let me know.

Video Excitement

Friday, December 8th, 2006

I just purchased a camcorder. It is the second camcorder I have bought, the first being this incredibly cheap, incredibly cheap looking and incredibly cheap performing number off ebay. This new one is a Canon ZR500.

Man this thing takes some good looking video. Or at least it looks great on the little LCD screen. I have yet to buy any MiniDV tapes for it. I’m working night shifts right now, so my shopping time is a bit restricted.

I plan on taking some amazing video of two incredibly beautiful children and maybe doing some vblogging of sorts. Or videopodcasting, or whatever it is the kids call it these days.

I will post some here as soon as I can, which will be as soon as work takes it’s icy death grip from around my throat.

I’m still playing around with my newfound Mac and video knowledge and here is another treat for baby-viewing pleasure:

This is JD at Christmas time.

Uplifter Carolina Meeting

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

This is my first ever live blog from an event. There are five of us here playing with various things, including trying to make my cheapy ebay camera into a webcam. It is supposed to do this on it’s own, but you know how these things go. I’m learning a number of things already and I’m going to try an experiment.

Here is an attempt to imbed a QuickTime movie into a post:

And yes this this the movie from this post. Note: you have to have a QuickTime plugin for this to work.

Phenom

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

I know everybody tends to think that their particular chirren are phenomenal in some way. But I tell you what, Emily may just have some innate baseball talent.

A few months ago she was throwing a ball to my brother. They were little overhand laser shots. Dave and I were both impressed by the throwing arm on this 3 year old girl. She was throwing smoke at him whilst paying more attention to Gracie (his dog).

Today we broke out a T-ball set that Marilyn had bought for her. Now granted, this is an oversize plastic bat and an oversize plasic ball. Let’s balance that with 3. years. old.

She hit the ball in the air all but 2 times. A couple of the hits went an easy 30 feet. I was standing a good 20 feet in front of her and I caught several balls at my chest. We tried to take some video of it, I will see if it turned out and show you what I’m talking about.

Someday there might be a woman in the major leagues. You never know.

UPDATE: Check this out (QT movie). What she said is “That was a fat one” and then “Stand back.”
