Why Wait?

Monday, December 20th, 2010

I’ve been rethinking about starting all this poker revamping on January 1st. Why wait? It seems like an unnecessary conceit to need some line of demarcation like the start of the New Year. I think this weekend I will reset all of my Sharkscope stats and begin the tracking of my stats on CardPlayer.com.

A Fresh Start

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

2011 is the year that is going to make or break me as a poker player.  This is the year that I’m going to make a real go at building a bankroll into something that matters.  I’ve been grinding sideways (as my brother puts it) for years now and my results in 2011 will decide [...]

Asides

My back still hurts from the surgery.  I am cautiously calling the whole thing a success because the pain down my legs is lessened to a certain degree, but I still get some pain.  I’m pretty sure that the current pain is a result of the surgery and may lessen as I heal up.  That’s what [...]

Talking Poker

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Ken’s small aside about the language of poker got me to thinking about the jargon that is used to describe poker action.  Like any jargon, it makes for a nice shorthand when discussing a fairly complex situation.  I know I sound like a 1940s hepcat sometimes when I talk about it.  Feel free to ask [...]

Did It

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I mentioned a few months ago how I was determined to one day become a profitable player on Sharkscope.
I am tickled to announce that today is that day.
UPDATE:  If you see this post more than one day old, you may be confused.  I didn’t keep my winning ways, so I am now slightly in the [...]

Poker Stakes

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

You might think that as you rise in the level of buy-in that the level of skill of the players increases proportionally. For instance it would seem a safe assumption, that the players in a $10 tourney are somewhat better than those in a $5 tournament.
You’d be wrong. The average $10 dollar player [...]

Booked

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

I just booked my flight and hotel to my second annual trip to the WSOP. Tough times in the country are turning into a boon for me as the flight and the hotel are dirt cheap. I got the room for less than half of what I paid last year and it’s an [...]

179 Poorer Souls

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Only a day or two before this post, I told my brother what good poker I was playing.  And I was, too.  I had gotten into a groove of beautiful play, in which I kept my opponents off balance by mixing up my passive and aggressive, loose and tight play in such a way that [...]
