FOX Gets Stupider Every Day

Friday, February 29th, 2008

I’ve always hated the Faux News Network. Bill O’Reilly makes my skin crawl and John Gibson is just some weird albino dude with paranoid fantasies of Rambo Claus needing to fight his way through Christmas.

But this takes the cake.

Not only is the whole thing hogwash, (C’mon a drone aircraft with GPS for $500? Sure if you get a TomTom and one of these) but they use a picture of a DALEK as the example of a terrorist robot.

Yes, a Dalek. The goofy ass cheesy, sci-fi robots from the show Doctor Who. How far off the deep end do these Republican propagandists have to go before they become the joke? First it was using Jack Bauer hero fantasies to condone torture, now it’s robot terrorists.

Daybreak

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

I’m not much of a TV watcher. Especially TV series. When you work rotating 12 hour shifts and don’t own a DVR of any sort, it’s just hard to maintain an interest in one and miss half of all the shows.

That being said, the ABC series, Daybreak, has caught my attention.

First of all, I like Taye Diggs. I can’t think of anything he has been in that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy.

Second, I like the premise. He keeps reliving the same day over and over, but when he alters his actions, things turn out different. And sometimes they don’t. It’s very cool and they don’t even attempt (at least in the series premier) to try and explain why it’s happening. Other than the same day thing, it’s pretty much a cop/action show.

Third (and perhaps most importantly), you don’t have to watch it on TV! On the ABC website you can watch the show in it’s entirety for free the next day. That’s very cool. The only thing that would be cooler is if they released it as a video podcast. I wouldn’t mind getting the thing automatically. But that’s just lazy old me. For now I can live with streaming it off their site.

You can watch several of their popular shows like that (Grey’s Anatomy, etc). If you are like me and can’t find the time to be shackled to the archaic teevee, you should check it out.

First On The Mac

Friday, March 31st, 2006

The 03/31/06 episode of The Chair and Automan is out. Download the MP3 directly here. Or better yet, get a podcatching client and subscribe to this podcast here. Or check out my Odeo channel.

In this episode:

I understand that I sound like I’m in a can. I’m trying to fix that.

I talk about my first attempt at a podcast on the Mac, about loving it despite a few issues, about video podcasts that I like, about HBO sucking and about the Mac helping me to become a better Ebay sniper. And I play some songs.

MythBusters

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Discovery Channel’s MythBusters is one of my favorite shows on TV. Not that I’m much of a TV watcher, but this show grabs my attention when I do have a few moments. Anybody that takes the time to investigate wether urinating on the third rail of the subway would actually shock you is okay in my book.

Kolchak, The Night Stalker

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005

I just got finished watching an old episode of Kolchak, The Night Stalker starring Darren McGavin. It was made in the 70’s so there is a bit of cheese to it and the effects are primitive, but it still plays pretty well. It is still good enough to give me some chills in the middle of the day.

Just listening to it though, I thought it would make a good podcast with just the audio portion. Of course you would need a narrator to cover the non-speaking parts as he gropes his way through dark sewers or what-have-you, but I think it would make a good audio drama.

TV Sux

Friday, November 11th, 2005

During my time off I have watched more TV than I had in the previous four or five years, combined (excluding baseball games). And one thing stands out: it really sucks. I can’t stand most TV shows so I watch mostly movies. Even most of those are for idiots.

Another (un)interesting thing is that Jeff Bridges seems to be in most of the crappy movies.

Daytime TV

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

Everybody knows that daytime TV sucks. I knew it long ago and my recent time spent watching it has only reinforced that opinion.

The special effects on those Superman movies really suck. And the make-up on the old Star Trek shows is pitiful. The scariest thing about it is that there is a contingent of people that wish it had never changed.

Law and Order is on ALL DAY.

News has devolved into a bunch of a-holes spouting their a-holish opinions about missing white kids and present Democrats.

The word “reality” has no business in a sentence about a TV show. Nothing on TV is real. Not even the aforementioned news. Especially not on FOX.

I love the way TV has begun a recycling campaign of its own. Take has-beens and put them into psychotically weird situations and film it. Woohoo, let the fun commence. Let’s make it 17 minutes of fame, by any means necessary.

After seeing all these shows lamenting the fall of many child stars, I look at the adult versions of them and think that it’s probably a good thing. Most of these “former child stars” are as intriguing and charismatic as the sand that gets swept out of my foyer. And as plentiful, too. And thanks to FOX, they come back about as often.

Kirstie Ally is everywhere. Read that sentence again, it’s a double entendre.

I work for the company and I find those Bridgestone commercials completely embarassing. Those are really good tires, let’s show that by having half naked people do back flips and the tango. Good idea.

Oooh, I gotta go. Law and Order is coming back on.

The Oscars

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

I had to debate with myself on whether to put his under arts/tv or arts/movies. I figure since it is actually TV about movies, it should go under the tv section.

That being said, who gives a crap about the Oscars anyways? The fact that cornball junk like this has gained such a position in our society is, in my opinion, a sign that it was a huge mistake standardizing the work week to 40 hours. Obviously people need more things to worry about if they have that much leisure time on their hands. It all boils down to debating who did the best job of pretending to be someone else last year. Big deal.

David Cassidy And Market Price

Monday, February 7th, 2005

If you believe that free markets always find the true value of an item, then 20 David Cassidy/Partridge Family paperbacks and a used puzzle are worth $46.

I’m just letting you know, in case you were thinking of selling yours.

David Cassidy And The Partridge Family

Saturday, January 29th, 2005

We went to clean my late Aunt Christine’s house out today. A bunch of stuff is just simply being donated to the Salvation Army, including things I would love to have but simply would not do anything but clutter up my house.

One set of things that I simply couldn’t donate was this collection of David Cassidy/Partridge Family books plus a David Cassidy Jigsaw puzzle. Somebody wants these, I’m sure. So I’m Ebaying them. We will see if they fetch anything. I thought at first that it was for sure, but after doing a quick search on Ebay for “David Cassidy” I see there is a lot of available stuff. So maybe it will sell for a pittance or not at all.
