FOX Gets Stupider Every Day

Friday, February 29th, 2008

I’ve always hated the Faux News Network. Bill O’Reilly makes my skin crawl and John Gibson is just some weird albino dude with paranoid fantasies of Rambo Claus needing to fight his way through Christmas.

But this takes the cake.

Not only is the whole thing hogwash, (C’mon a drone aircraft with GPS for $500? Sure if you get a TomTom and one of these) but they use a picture of a DALEK as the example of a terrorist robot.

Yes, a Dalek. The goofy ass cheesy, sci-fi robots from the show Doctor Who. How far off the deep end do these Republican propagandists have to go before they become the joke? First it was using Jack Bauer hero fantasies to condone torture, now it’s robot terrorists.

Weight Loss

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Current weight: 196 lbs.

Starting weight:  215ish lbs.

So I’ve lost around 20 pounds so far, which is right in line with my goals.  With the workouts, I’ve managed to keep my muscle, too.  I’ve probably lost more than 20 pounds of fat, I’ve just added back some pounds in muscle.

I’m really enjoying the way my body is shaping up.  Clothes fit better (well maybe not my pants so much) and I feel more comfortable all the time.  And, yeah, I’m proud of myself. I weighed myself a few minutes ago and remarked before I got on that maybe I didn’t want everyone to see the number that was about to pop up.  Marilyn quickly informed me that I was being a tad disingenous.  She believes that if I didn’t want everyone to see it, I might have weighed myself somewhere other than in front of everyone.

 Well, shucks, maybe she’s right.

Going To The WSOP

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

Im going to be playing in a World Series of Poker event this June.  It will be event #27 on June 14th-June 17th.  Last year’s winner was Phil Helmuth, Jr. and it paid him over $600k.  I’m both incredibly psyched and scared to death.  I realize that it is close to stupid to be nervous about a game that is 4 months away, but I am.  I’m going to be playing in more large tournaments online to get used to playing for hours again.

Man, this is gonna be fun.  If you play poker, I hope to see you there.

Yes We Can

Via email, one of my old college roommates, Joe Joyce, sends this link.

He makes me feel something that I long ago thought I would never feel again, hope.  That’s worth something, in and of itself.  Whether he succeeds in his quest or not, he has hit me with the sparks that he throws off and they have kindled something that hasn’t burned in me since I was a teenager.

I can’t thank him enough for that.
