Freedom And Fright

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

So it has begun. I am in the first few hours of a 2 month long break from work. I am excited by the fact that I don’t need to go to work for the next 56 days.

I am also scared to death.

Within the next 36 hours sometime we will introduce a new life into the world. A little man will be born who will look to me as his role model. Ten years ago, not a soul in this world would have predicted this. Especially not me.

It is a little daunting to know that you will soon be assigned the task of teaching someone to be a man whilst you are still trying to figure it out yourself.

Wish me luck.

Rich Babies

Friday, September 9th, 2005

My kids have got more money than I do. In fact, my soon-to-be-born son has got more money than I do. He is still 2 to 3 weeks away from being born and he already has a positive net worth.

The fine folks at St John Towers (where my wife works) held a baby shower for us today. My wife is a beloved member of the staff there and the residents really showed us how much. They gave us gifts and more gifts and more gifts. Jonathan David Slusher raked in $1145.50 in cash alone. We will buy him a car seat with some of the money and the rest will go into a savings account for him. There are piles of clothes and blankets and stuff. So much, in fact, that he won’t possibly be able to wear all the clothes before he outgrows them. I’m serious. We have that many onesies.

We found out that some of the Katrina survivors have been relocated here. I’m going to get in touch with them and see if there are any infants that are in need of clothes. We have already set aside enough clothes for about two weeks with a couple of blankets and socks and a bottle washer and assorted baby things.

We are some incredibly lucky people. We are also very thankful that we are in a position to help others.
